About this site
Mind the Security Gap was created to make cybersecurity understandable for everyone, not just those who work in tech.
I've been working in cybersecurity for several years now, but before I entered the field, I had no idea what it really involved. Like most people, I thought "hackers" were like what you see in the movies. The reality was very different. The learning curve was steep, acronyms, jargon and endless complex technical concepts.
What I've realised over time is that many cybersecurity issues don't come down to sophisticated techniques, but rather exploiting people, misplaced trust, assumptions and the gap in understanding. When cybersecurity is explained in overly technical terms, many people switch off because they assume it's too complicated to grasp.
Everyday, ordinary people are being tricked and targeted left, right and centre. Sometimes through carelessness, yes, but also because they do not understand and/or they are not aware. There's a huge gap between the technical world and everyone else, and I want to help bridge that gap.
Mind the Security Gap exists to translate cybersecurity into plain English, to show you how attacks really happen, why they work, and what simple steps you can take to protect yourself. My goal is to make these concepts approachable, relatable, and hopefully enjoyable to read.
