About this site

Mind the Security Gap was created to make cybersecurity understandable for everyone, not just those who work in tech.

I've been working in cybersecurity for a while now, but before I entered the field, I had no idea what it really involved. Like most people, I thought "hackers" were like what you see in the movies. Being honest, the learning curve was brutal for someone starting with little to no knowledge. Many, many acronyms, jargon and endless complex technical concepts.

What I've realised over time is that many cybersecurity issues don't come down to sophisticated attacks, but rather, taking advantage of people, their lack of knowledge, misplaced trust, naivety, and in some cases, people's lack of even caring to understand. When you talk about cyber to non-technical people, many switch off because they assume its too complicated to grasp.

Everyday, ordinary people are being tricked and targeted left, right and centre. Sometimes because they are careless, yes, but also because they do not understand. There's a huge gap between the technical world and everyone else, and I want to help bridge it.

Mind the Security Gap exists to translate cybersecurity into plain language, to show you how attacks really happen, why they work, and what simple steps you can take to protect yourself. My goal is to make these concepts approachable, relatable, and hopefully enjoyable to read.
