Why This Blog?

I’ve been working in cybersecurity for a few years now, but before I entered the field, I had no clue about cybersecurity, what it involved, or even that it existed. I didn’t know how attackers got into systems, or what made something a “critical vulnerability.” Like most people, I associated a hacker with movies, like Q in James Bond.
When I started in the industry, the learning curve was brutal. At times I felt completely lost, surrounded by technical jargon, a whole new vocabulary, complex concepts, and of course, don’t forget the encyclopaedia of acronyms. But I stuck with it, and eventually, it started not only to click, but I realised I was rather skilled in it.
Cybersecurity can be overwhelming and complex if you let it. For people who don’t work in tech, it’s easy to switch off when you hear about a new scam or a breach. You don’t understand it, nobody explains it properly, so you brush it under the carpet and tell yourself it won’t ever affect you.
But, working in cybersecurity has shown me how much risk is around us every single day. People are being tricked, targeted, and hacked all the time - not because they’re careless, but because they’re not being given the knowledge in a way that’s easy to understand.
There’s a big gap. A disconnection between technical people and everyone else. I think we need to bridge that gap, especially with where the world is heading. The more digital everything becomes, the more important this gets. But we’re never going to close that gap if we keep pushing out overly technical information that nobody understands (or at least, only the “technical” minority understand it).
That’s why I created this blog.
I want to help people understand the basics, what attacks look like, how they happen, and what you can do to protect yourself. You don’t need to be a tech expert to get it; you just need the right explanations. So that’s what I’ll try to give you here, simple, plain-talking posts that are accessible, honest, and (hopefully) helpful.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you find something beneficial here.
